What Should I Do?
Story 1: My Neighbor’s Dog
Indicates required field
Outside playing, I hear the neighbor’s dog howling and crying in pain. When I go to the fence, I see his front paw is stuck in a broken place on the fence. It is bleeding. That dog should never have tried to get out of his backyard. Now he is hurt. What should I do?
I don’t like this dog or the neighbor, but I go next door and tell my neighbor the dog is hurt. I can’t stand to see the dog in pain.
I don’t like this dog or the neighbor. The dog might bite me, so I move away from the fence and go inside to watch TV. That way I don’t have to listen to the dog crying. I think the neighbor will hear it and take care of it soon.
Story 2: Old Woman
I am waiting for my friend to come so we can go to the movies. I only have enough money to buy my ticket – no popcorn and drink today! Then, I see an old woman on a walker shuffle by on the sidewalk. Just as she gets past me, I see a $5 bill drop out of her pocket. It floats down to the sidewalk. She doesn’t even know she dropped it. WOW! Just enough to pay for popcorn and a drink! What should I do?
I pick up the money and put it in my pocket. She must not need the money since she let it fall out of her pocket. Also, I don’t know the lady and I am not supposed to talk to strangers. I guess this is my lucky day. Popcorn and drink, here I come!
I pick up the money and run after the old woman. She may not know she lost it, but I know. No popcorn and drink for me today.
Story 3: The Challenge
Tough choice! My friend, Todd, invited me to go to the championship football game tonight. The problem is I told my little brother I would help him with his science project tonight. It is due tomorrow, so this is the last chance we have to work on it. I really want to see that game. What should I do?
I want to go with Todd to the game. My little brother can do his own project, after all, it is his homework, not mine! Why should I stay home and help him and miss the championship game?
I do what I said I would do and help my brother with his science project. Maybe I will get to go to a game next year.
Fun in Class
Bobby leans over and whispers while the teacher’s back is turned. He wants me to pass a note to his friend on the other side of me. Our teacher is trying to explain a lesson. I am trying to listen to her. The problem is I don’t want Bobby to be mad at me. What should I do?
I shake my head, ignore Bobby, and listen to the teacher. I do not pass the note during class. It makes Bobby mad.
I want Bobby to like me, so I ignore the teacher and pass the note. After all, this is not my favorite teacher. I’m passing the class. Why should I listen to her?
Whose Job Is It?
Field trip time! Our class goes on a hike in the state park. As we walked down the trail, I noticed someone left a drink can beside the trail. Don’t they know that makes the place look messy. Of course, the trash can is way at the end of the trail. I don’t want to carry someone’s trash all the way there. What should I do?
I leave the can on the trail. It must be someone’s job to come by and clean up trash. They should put trashcans all along the trail for people to use. I don’t think I am supposed to take care of other people’s work. It’s not my job!
I pick up the can and carry it with me until we get to the end of the trail. YUCK! It is nasty! It goes in the trashcan. Then I hurry up and wash my hands. Don’t want any germs!
Sticks and Stones
Betty and Jill are talking about me again. They make me so mad! I want to go over and knock them down or yell at them. Who do they think they are? What am I going to do?
I go over and start yelling at Betty and Jill. They aren’t supposed to treat me this way. I’ll show them. I’ll let them have it. A swift kick and a few choice words will put them in their place. You don’t talk about me or I will get you back!
I ignore them and leave. What they are saying hurts my feelings, but I can walk away. If I hurt them back, it will only make the situation worse. I need to find new friends!
